The Detroit fans didn't appreciate the big day Jorge Posada had. He doubled in the 5th inning and belted a three-run homer (his 2nd of the season) in the 9th inning. Caracas rapped out 15 hits for the afternoon. Santana(4-0) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 3 runs. The loss was charged to Kris Benson(0-3). He served up 3 homeruns in his 3 innings. Santana was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little odd when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a running tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Just strange - but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the game.'
